You're doing Memorial Day wrong (amended)

On Memorial Day, did you say "thank you" to an active duty soldier? Did you offer a tribute to a living veteran who served honorably? Or did you pause to remember someone who had served in the armed forces years ago who later passed away?

If you said "yes" to any or all of these, you are missing the point of Memorial Day.

Yes, we should thank current members of the services... and the veterans who are still with us... and those who served and later died.

But today is not their day.

THIS is why we have a Memorial Day:

And this:

And this:

And this:

Memorial Day is not for the living, and it's not for those who served and came home. We have Veterans Day for those who served and came home, and Armed Forces Day for those currently wearing the uniform. But Memorial Day is for those who truly sacrificed.

It's for those who died during their service. Don't diminish this day of their honor.

Yes, you should pay tribute to all who have served this country honorably. But on this day, on Memorial Day, remember that this day stands for those who never came home.

Glenn Beck tells his audience what they want to hear

This excerpt from Glenn Beck's 5/11/15 tirade is enough to explain to you why you can't have a normal, meaningful conversation with a bigot.
In the view of people like Beck, there are no more race-related problems in the United States EXCEPT those problems caused by non-whites. In Beck's world, the election of President Obama is proof that ALL white people have ended all hatred and fear of people of color.
Beck wants us to believe... and his devoted followers DO believe... that we live in a complete post-racial society and that everything is all Kumbayah...or would be if those pesky non-whites would just appreciate it.

Huckabee: kicking aside the law on Day One

You just can't take this guy seriously. As he was officially announcing his candidacy, presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee actually encouraged his fans to violate campaign contribution laws with million dollar donations.

Some will defend him, saying that he was only joking. But deciding who should be elected President of the United States is no laughing matter. If Huckabee is this naive to the law, perhaps he should quit politics for good and stick to promoting quack remedies.
